Welcome to Writers of Mauritius (“we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of our website, services, and publishing programs (collectively, the “Services”). By accessing or submitting material to writersofmauritius.com (“Website”), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by these Terms in full.
If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must refrain from using this Website.
1. Eligibility and Account Use
1.1 Eligibility: Users must be at least 13 years old. Users under 18 must have parental or guardian consent to use the Website or submit works.
1.2 Registration: When creating an account, you agree to provide accurate information and maintain the confidentiality of your login credentials. You are responsible for all activity conducted under your account.
1.3 Termination: We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access at any time without prior notice for any breach of these Terms or unlawful conduct.
1.4 Geographic Eligibility: Writers of Mauritius is a platform dedicated to individuals connected to Mauritius. Submissions and participation are limited to: (i) Citizens of Mauritius; (ii) Residents of Mauritius; or (iii) Individuals with a clear and meaningful connection to Mauritius (including heritage, upbringing, or thematic relevance in their work).
2. Submissions and Intellectual Property
2.1 Originality: All works submitted (including stories, poems, essays, and other creative writings) must be your own original, unpublished work. Submissions must not contain plagiarism or infringe upon any copyright, trademark, privacy, or intellectual property rights of others.
2.2 Copyright: Authors retain full copyright of their work at all times.
2.3 License to Us: By submitting your work, you grant Writers of Mauritius the right of first publication in print and/or digital anthologies, marketing materials, and related media. Following first publication, all rights revert to you, the author.
2.4 Editorial Rights: You grant us permission to edit or proofread your submission for grammar, punctuation, formatting, and consistency, without materially altering your creative voice or meaning. Substantial changes will only be made with your consent.
2.5 Anthology and Marketing Use: Submission implies consent for your work, your name, and your author biography to be featured in our anthology, social media promotions, newsletters, and related marketing content. This permission is perpetual and irrevocable for materials already published or used in marketing.
2.6 No Payment: Writers participate on a voluntary, passion-driven basis. There are no royalties, fees, or monetary compensation for submissions or inclusion in any of our anthologies, whether digital or print, unless specifically mentioned otherwise in the campaign.
2.7 Withdrawal and Removal of Work: Once a submission has been accepted for publication or published in any Writers of Mauritius anthology, it may not be withdrawn, removed, or unpublished at the request of the author. By submitting, you acknowledge and agree that your work becomes part of a collective publication project. We reserve the sole discretion to remove or withdraw content in exceptional circumstances, including but not limited to legal concerns, policy violations, or unforeseen issues.
2.8 No Guarantee of Selection: Submission of a work does not guarantee acceptance or publication. Writers of Mauritius retains full editorial discretion in selecting works for publication.
2.9 Publication Timeline and Discretion: Writers of Mauritius reserves full discretion over whether, when, and how accepted works are published. Acceptance does not guarantee publication. If a work is not published within a reasonable timeframe, we may, at our discretion, release it from first publication consideration.
3. Representations and Warranties
By submitting a work, you warrant that:
• You are the original and sole creator of the work.
• The work is unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere.
• The work does not contain defamatory, obscene, or unlawful material.
• You have the full legal right and authority to grant the rights specified herein.You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Writers of Mauritius, its editors, affiliates, and licensors from any claims arising from your breach of these warranties.
• You understand and accept that once your work is accepted or published, it cannot be withdrawn or removed except at our discretion;
• We are not responsible for any similarities between submitted works and other works published by us or elsewhere, including coincidental similarities in theme, idea, or expression.
4. Our Legal Rights
Writers of Mauritius retains the right to:
• Publish accepted works in any anthology edition, both physical and digital;
• Use selected excerpts or images for marketing or promotional purposes;
• Reject, remove, or withdraw any submission found to violate these Terms;
• Update, modify, or discontinue any Service or publication at our discretion;
• We are not obligated to provide feedback or justification for rejected or removed submissions;
• Cancel, postpone, or modify any anthology, project, or publication at our discretion without obligation to contributors.
All website content (excluding user-submitted materials) — including design, text, graphics, and logos — remains the property of Writers of Mauritius and is protected under Mauritian and international intellectual property law.
5. User Conduct
You agree not to:
• Post or transmit any unlawful, defamatory, or harmful material;
• Use the site for commercial solicitation or spam;
• Violate any applicable local, national, or international regulations; or
• Interfere with the security or functionality of the Website.
You remain solely responsible for the content of your submission and any consequences arising from its publication.
You agree that your work may be published with the name, pseudonym, or attribution you provide at the time of submission. We are not responsible for updating attribution after publication.
6. Payments, Refunds, and Access
Unless otherwise indicated, participation in our literary initiatives is free. If in the future certain submission or administrative fees apply, those fees will be clearly stated and will be non-refundable.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Writers of Mauritius shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of opportunity, reputational harm, or publication-related disputes arising from:
• Submission or publication of any work;
• Use or inability to use the Website;
• Unauthorised access to user data;
• Any errors, omissions, or editorial changes.
Use of the Services is at your own risk.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the Website or preservation of submitted materials. Users are responsible for retaining copies of their work. We are not liable for loss of submissions due to technical issues.

8. Force Majeure
We shall not be held liable for any failure or delay in performance due to events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, technical failures, internet outages, legal restrictions, or unforeseen circumstances.

We may amend these Terms from time to time. Updates will be posted with a new effective date. Continued use of the Website after such updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Mauritius. Any disputes will be subject exclusively to the jurisdiction of the Mauritian courts.
11. No Partnership/Employment
Nothing in these Terms creates any partnership, joint venture, or employment relationship between you and Writers of Mauritius.
